the icing on the cake
brian's birthday kind of got lost in the process of moving (among other things we've yet to find), so we had a little belated celebration last week. anybody who knows brian knows that he is not a cake guy... unless it's a bonafide american cookie company cake. he's had the exact. same. cake. every single year. so why bother to even look at the cake? that's obviously what everyone was thinking this year. here's a shot of our birthday crowd singing to the birthday boy.
you can see brian's dad is about to flip out the lights.... but wait! brian's grandmother seated at the table actually read the cake!

when the birthday song ended, i asked, "has anybody even read the cake?" natalie was a fast reader. :) everybody else was a little confused... and surprised!

ok... those are the smiles we were hoping to see!

so much for boring cookie cakes! :)

we are so excited to be expecting a precious addition to our family in may 2012! praise God from Whom all blessings flow.
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. -Psalm 139:13-16

Now that's some good icing! Ha! Ha!
I would like to make my own cake for you for after the delivery. It will read, "We cannot fit any more car seats in our van!" (Notice the omission of a contraction there! HAAA! CONTRACTION! GET IT?!!!)
Don't lose your cookies after reading this! (OH NO!) Okay, I'll stop :)
you are hilarious!
how did i forgot to mention the cookie cake guy??!!! as i was spelling out the words over the phone to the cake man, i realized that this was one step away from cake wrecks, folks. "b-a-b-b-y?" um no. so i opted for the "we are" just to be safe. i can't be havin' no grammatical errors on my cake! he forgot the exclamation point, so it just cracked me up how matter-of-fact the message looked :) if i had been making the cake, there would have been a BUNCH of !!!!!! at the end. :)
Yay! Congratulations Emily!! What a fun way to announce to everyone, love it! Blessings during this pregnancy and settling into you new house!
So happy for you!
And not surprised at all that the message came in icing form!!:)
congratulations!!
Congratulations! Tell Brian after the baby comes I'll bring y'all a peanut butter pie! :)
Congratulations! We are working on the same schedule! ;-) And we can't fit any more seats in our van, either... I did think it was a rather somber message- glad to know the exclamations were there in spirit, if not in icing.
Congrats my friend! I love the way Natalie is covering her mouth while all the adults are still thinking it over. She looks like such a little grown up. I'm so excited for your family. A new baby is an incredible blessing.
Congratulations, Emily!! I'm so excited for you and know that you will be an amazing mother of FOUR!
As a mother of four, getting to have my last was the icing on my cake. I savor his every moment and love my older children so much more because of him. You are truly, truly blessed. Your life will be filled to overflowing. Congratulations.
Elaine
Congrats!! Keeping you in prayer!
So happy for you and yours! I was just asking your mom about this very subject the other day. Hmmm .... wonder if she knew and just couldn't say.
I'm actually writing this from Abilene where I stayed with Houston and Karen two nights. Their household is lively with 4 girls ... as yours will be (well not with 4 girls unless you have twin girls and then you would have 5 little Delmars! In fact, I was showing her your blog so she could see your sweet family last night. Guess I'll have to tell her to check out your last post!
Congratulations, my friend! What wonderful news!! And happy birthday to Brian and I wish I had a piece of that cookie cake! :)
