psalm 139:13-16
for You formed my inward parts; You knitted me together in my mother's womb. i praise You, for i am fearfully and wonderfully made. wonderful are Your works; my soul knows it very well. my frame was not hidden from You, when i was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in Your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there were none of them.
in honor of national sanctity of human life day, i thought i'd share these precious pictures of ethan. the first sonogram picture was taken at 20 weeks gestation, in feb. 2005. he weighed approximately 12 oz, the weight of a can of coke.

the next picture in utero was taken in may 2005, at 32 weeks gestation. here, ethan weighed approximately 4 lbs. he doubled his weight in the next 8 weeks!

as mind boggling as it was to think that there was a PERSON growing inside my body, i never doubted for a SECOND that God was knitting together this precious life. i never doubted for a second that His hand was on my child. whether ethan was the size of a lentil bean (see below) or a hefty 8 lb. newborn, his heart was beating. he is a life given to us by the grace of God.

we remain in awe of God's work in the life of our child. he will sometimes make a face that is identical to that of his sonogram picture... taken when he didn't even have skin yet! God was developing his personality and facial expressions even then! ethan was as important to us and as living in the womb as he is now.
i do not understand how a woman can bear a child and not believe in God. it is truly a miracle that cannot be attributed to chance or evolution or anything other than the Almighty God. i'm thankful for the technology of 4-d ultrasounds that show mothers so much detail of their unborn child. i have heard that these new ultrasounds are saving more unborn children from abortion. praise God!
i just thought of a song that my mom and i used to love to sing....(does anybody have this cd??) i think i'll have to start singing this to ethan... minus the cheesy sandi patty-ness.
"masterpiece" by sandi patty
Before you had a name
Or opened up your eyes
Or anyone could recognize your face,
You were being formed,
So delicate in size,
Secluded in God’s safe and hidden place.
With your little tiny hands
And little tiny feet
And little eyes that shimmered like a pearl.
He breathed in you a song,
And to make it all complete,
He brought the masterpiece into the world.
CHORUS
You are a masterpiece,
You’re creation He has formed,
And you’re as soft and fresh
As snowy winter morn
And I’m so glad that God
Has given you to me,
Little Lamb of God,
You are a masterpiece
Now you’re growing up,
You’re life’s a miracle,
Every time I look at you I stand in awe,
Because I see in you
A reflection of me,
And you’ll always be my little Lamb from God.
And as your life goes on
Each day I pray
That you will see just how much your life
Has meant to me.
I’m so proud of you,
What else is there to say?
Just be the masterpiece, He created you to be.
