ethan: a "don't forget the lyrics" theological disaster!
i can't believe i forgot to share this over a month ago...
one day several weeks ago, ethan was playing and singing, and it was obvious that he had a line from a song stuck in his head... i heard "i will seek You in the morning" over and over and over. it took me a minute to figure out that he was singing a line from "step by step", a song that we sometimes sing on sunday nights, but it's not one i frequently sing throughout our days at home. i asked him where he learned that song, and he said, "because i sang it at gram's church!" (in december!) then my mom told me she'd been singing it with him a couple of weeks before this day. well, we started singing the whole song, and boy, did he learn all the lyrics quickly! he would sing them while we were playing outside, eating lunch, alll day long! and this is what he was singing...
oh God, You are my God,
and i will never praise You.
oh God, You are my God,
and i will never praise You.
i will seek You in the morning
and i will learn to walk in Your waaaays,
and step by step You'll leave me, Lord,
and i will follow You all of my days.
um, quite the opposite of the point of the song, ethan! we're working on the real words. :) but i need to get it on video before he gets it right!

aww! That is super cute! I bet God is cracking up at your son! haha...Aiden just taught me a "blessing" song last night at dinner he learned at church, he was so proud of himself when I figured out all the words he was saying...these boys are silly!
Too funny! During her prayers one night Emma said, "Thank you for my swing, my Daddy safe to work and for the little boy who lives down the lane." Not sure how a nursery rhyme got in there but I guess she's thankful for it!
How cute and funny!! I love how children think of things and the way they say them. That's a memory keeper for sure!
Emily, it has been a while since I have lurked . . . and this was just the laugh I needed this morning! So adorable-- heretical, but adorable! Haha.
that's hilarious!! those kids say the funniest things. i asked alanna at dinner the other night what she had done that day to which she replied, "i played the saxophone." i didn't even know she knew what a saxo phone was!
CUTE! Our son had hearing difficulties when he was little and these are some of the things he thought we were singing and so sang himself at the TOP of his little voice:
"Armored Christian Soliders" (Onward Christian Soldiers)this one actually makes sense, you know?
"Praise Him all Creatures, HERE WE GO!" (from the doxology, praise Him all creatures here BELOW.")
"From the waters lifted me, now I'm safe and dry." (from "Love Lifted Me")another sensible one.
"Oh, My Darlin, Oh, My Darlin', Oh My Darlin' Lemon Pie" (Clementine)
What joy comes from childlike innocence and enthusiasm
We still laugh some 25 years later! ! No small amount of embarrassement for him, I am sure!
You realize, Emily, that someone is going to Google "Oh God You are my God" looking for the lyrics or tabs for that song, and they are going to get your blog post... after which you will receive a rude comment - haha - just kidding :)
