oh the fun of toddler speech development...
we were all playing in the living room this afternoon after the kids' not-long-enough-for-me-naps, and brian helped himself to a bowl of his newfound obsession, blueberries. ethan has tried blueberries in the past and liked them, but for some reason, he has not really cared for them lately... until DADDY had blueberries! so brian gave ethan one, then another, then another, and ethan loved them! so of course, he kept asking for more...
"more boo-beeeees!"
"that's a big boooo-beeeeee!"
um, yes, i'm a speech therapist, and yes, that's a perfectly acceptable way for a two-year old to say "blueberries". but brian and i probably had way too much fun with that this afternoon. especially on the Lord's Day. but ethan loved saying "blueberries" over and over. now if the next time he's driving the "green dump truck" cart at the grocery store, he exclaims "yook mommy! big booooo-beeeeeeees!", then we'll have us a little home-grown speech therapy. :)

Emily - that is so funny! Just picturing how he sounds cracks me up! Shep has a few words that cause us to cringe a little when we're in public out of fear of other people having no clue how to interpret. :) I guess most parents of toddlers could relate to this post! Hope Ethan continues to eat his "boo-beees"!!
that is too cute!! alanna says "be-yay," for berry.
thats absolutely hilarious!!
How funny! For some strange reason, with certain words Wesley drops the ending sound of a word and attaches it to the front. He only does it with a few words, and we would have never noticed except for the word soda. He pronounces it a-Soe, with the emphasis on the 's'. Try this out for yourself and you'll notice that when repeated, it sounds like Wesley is calling someone a bad word! Whenever he spots anyone drinking from a straw, this is what he repeats VERY loudly, especially in public places like restaurants!
When I was reading through the post, I didn't really think much about Ethan calling blueberries booo-beees. To be honest, I didn't give much thought to what "booo-beeees" would sound like if you said it out loud. Then, when you referred to it being embarassing if he said "boo-bees" in public, I said "boo-beeees" out loud and realized why it was so funny!!! I told Payton about it and he laughed out loud. Thanks, Ethan, for some comic relief :)
