welcome home, granddaddy...
granddaddy is now at Home... the Home we all talk about as a better place, a place of no pain or suffering, a place of perfection and glory...he's there now. granddaddy died yesterday morning, and i wonder what he's doing right now.... i picture him running, jumping, bending over... all things he hasn't been able to do for so long. his eyesight is no longer diminishing... he can see everything! especially JESUS! that just overwhelms me to think of that being a reality for him. though i miss him already, knowing that he is singing praises for the rest of eternity with the angels brings peace to my heart. i remember granddaddy to be such a calm and quiet man that it makes me smile to think of him skipping down streets of gold, singing at the top of his lungs. :) i've been trying to imagine what else granddaddy is probably doing in heaven right now... maybe remodeling a house or two? nope, probably not, since Jesus has already prepared the place for us (john 14:2-3)... i doubt he's working on cars or chopping firewood. if there are gardens in heaven, granddaddy is enjoying blooms that don't wither.
if there are jigsaw puzzles, he's loving that no box is ever missing a piece. :) and if he can look down and see earth (but why would you, when you've got HEAVEN?), he can enjoy all the beautiful sights he & grandmother didn't yet see in their camper. granddaddy was always helping someone with something... i guess we won't need help with anything in heaven because it's a perfect place, but it's strange to think about my granddaddy NOT serving others. the more i think about what heaven will be like, the more i just want granddaddy to be able to send me a postcard or something! boy do i sound like a 6 year old!
i can't wrap my brain around the reality of it all, though by faith, i know it's real and true... what a blessing that is. and one day, praise God, i will join granddaddy and so many other loved ones in this perfect place. i can't wait to see him again. i think he'll be sitting in a comfy chair with a flannel shirt, drinking his coffee. he'll be able to see me, and i can already hear him say "hiiii, em-ly!" (yep, 2 syllables...he's from tennessee). that will be a sweet sound, but not as sweet as hearing jesus say "welcome home". welcome home, granddaddy. i love you.

Emily,
I just finished reading the tribute to your granddaddy. It was such a good reminder....of our purpose...and our hope! He sounded like a really great man. Cary and I will be praying for you and your family. We love you!
PS. Have you ever thought of trying to write for a Christian magazine or book? Your insight and wisdom is a gift from God. :) When I read your blogs it feels almost like reading a Max Lucado type book! Anyway just thought I would mention it!!
It is a wonderful comfort to know that our loved ones are enjoying heaven and waiting for us to join them. I'll be thinking of you and your family.
Normally I would say- Please accept my sympathies, but in light of your post and the way you so sweetly described Heaven, congratulations Grand Daddy is the only thing worth mentioning. I am however sorry that you cannot actually him in his flannel shirts while sipping coffee, but I rejoice with you that he is walking comfortably with our Lord Jesus and chatting about all the things that leave us perplexed about life. By the way, I adore the photo og you and him when you looked to be about 6 or 7. (((HUGS))) Lori
I will be praying for you and your family. It is so wonderful to read the peace that God has given you.
Jesus LOVES 6 year-olds!
I wish I could've met your granddaddy just once; I will someday! I really enjoyed reading that. I know your mom will, too, when she gets back home. Love ya :)
I keep coming back to your blog and seeing that first picture; I think Lydia looks like you in that one with your grandpa! :)
